Jeypore: A couple was killed and their son sustained critical injury after the car they were traveling in, hit a roadside tree near Tapajodi under Boipariguda police limits in Koraput district last night.
The deceased has been identified as Chaitanya Mohanty and his wife.
Chaitanya who ran a business in Malkangiri district had been to Kakatpur with family in some work and was returning home when the tragedy struck. The car which the family was boarding skidded off the road and ended up hitting a roadside tree near Boipariguda killing Chaitanya on the spot.
Chaitanya’s wife and son sustained critical injury and remained inside the mangled car for quite some time as the doors of it got auto locked under the impact of the collision. On the other hand the deceased’s daughter remained unhurt inside the vehicle and had a close shave.
Locals rescued the trio by breaking the windowpanes of the car with the help of firemen later in the night.
While the critical duo was rushed to Boipariguda CHC, Chaitanya’s wife died there under treatment. His son was shifted to Koraput Medical College due to deteriorating condition.
Boipariguda Police has seized the mangled car after sending the bodies for autopsy.
