Angul/Deogarh: In a shocking incident, a man hammered both his parents to death over a petty incident in Barapadar village under Kishore Nagar Police Station area in Angul district last night.
The deceased have been identified as Karunakar Baghar (70) and his wife Champa Baghar (65).
A verbal duel erupted between the accused identified as Dukhishyam Baghar (35) and his wife over locking up of a room in the house late last night. The argument between the couple escalated further later and Dukhishyam started attacking his wife over the issue. However, as both his parents prevented him from being offensive against his wife Dukhishyam took out a hammer and started attacking them instead.
The victim duo sustained critical head injury in hammering and died on the spot.
Police detained the accused for interrogation after reaching the spot.
In a similar incident in Shrugipada village under Kundheigola Police Station area in Deogarh district a youth shot his father dead in an inebriated condition following an argument in the same night.
The deceased has been identified as Bhagirathi Munda (51).
A dispute erupted between Bhagirathi and his son Aju Munda (30) over some issue during consumption of alcohol late in the night. After getting fumed against his father the accused fired a round of bullet from a country rifle kept at home. Bhagirathi died on the spot.
Police have arrested the accused and admitted to a nearby hospital as he also received a bullet injury in the incident.
