Bhubaneswar: In yet another unfortunate incident, a couple and their 3-year-old daughter suffered grievous burn injuries after a failed self-immolation bid near Kapileshwar Canal area on the outskirt of Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
The incident occurred at around 8am on Saturday morning. The victims have been identified as Ajay Das (40), his wife Janaki Das (32) and their daughter Ranu (3).
According to reports, Ajay had tried to immolate his wife over a petty family feud. The couple had frequent fights due to Ajay’s addiction to alcohol. However, while trying to torch Janaki, Ajay also came in contact with the fire which left him and his daughter badly charred.
Ajay’s mother and two of his elder daughters who were in the adjacent room during the incident are safe.
After learning about the incident, Lingaraj Police rushed to the spot and rescued the victims. They were immediately taken to Capital Hospital for treatment. The condition of Ajay’s wife Janaki is said to be critical.
