Malkangiri: In a tragic incident, a couple committed suicide at MV-70 village of the district here on Sunday. The duo ended their lives by consuming poison this afternoon.
The deceased have been identified as Ganesh Ghosh and his wife Nilima Ghosh.
Though, till the filing of this report, the exact reason why the Ghosh couple took the extreme step was yet to be known, local police suspected that they committed suicide due to humiliation.
Police from its preliminary investigation said that Ganesh had a love affair with a girl in the village. Ganesh and his wife felt ashamed when the villagers started gossiping about the matter, following which the couple consumed poison.
Bodies of Ganesh and Nilima were recovered from near a canal two kilometers away from the village.
