Counterfeit currency seized, 3 held in Rayagada

Rayagada: Busting a fake currency racket, police arrested at least three persons and seized cash worth Rs 10,000 from their possession in Jinjilibadi village under Chandili Police Station area in the district last night.

The accused have been identified as Dasamant Jena, his son Ranjan Jena of Kolnara village and Rajkumar Pani of Putasingh village.

The trio was detained by a group of village committee members late in the night, while trying to circulate counterfeit currency notes of Rs 500 denominations during the ongoing Chaitramela in the village. They were later handed over to Chandili Police.

While the accused have been forwarded to court today morning, police suspect them to be a part of a larger fake currency racket having base in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

An investigation is underway in the incident.
