Cuttack: The SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack is likely to begin cost-free heart transplantation soon. The Director of Medical Education & Training (DMET), Odisha has reportedly written a letter in this regard to the dean of the government hospital.
It is to be noted here that SCB, which is one of the premier Hospitals in the State has been planning to open a heart transplantation unit for the last four years. Even the authorities had registered for the same in different phases.
Reportedly, a special team visited the state government-run hospital last month and submitted its report to the DMET after reviewing the infrastructures and other facilities of the cardiothoracic department of the hospital.
There is no doubt that the State Health Department would add another feather to its cap if the heart transplantation begins at SCB Hospital.
Currently, there is no heart transplantation facility in any of the hospitals in Odisha. The patients from the State have to go to other states for heart transplantation and spend a minimum of one crore rupees. However, they can avail the service free of cost in the State if it begins at SCB Medical College & Hospital.
