Puri: The Inspector In-charge (IIC) of Nimapara police station, who had beaten a 74-year-old woman and her daughter-in-law in the police station on Monday, has been transferred to Puri Police Headquarters today.

According to reports, the accused IIC Mrutunjoy Swain has been directed to discharge his duties from the Police Headquarters till completion of the investigation into the matter.

Notably, one Rita Barik of Dalei Sahi in Dhirapur village had gone to the police station to file an FIR against her husband and in-laws alleging harassment by them on Monday, following which Swain called Barik’s husband and mother-in-law Basanti Palata. He questioned them about their family dispute at around 11 PM. Instead of solving the problem, Swain all of a sudden started beating both Basanti and Rita mercilessly.

Demanding stringent action against the accused police official, Basanti, who had sustained severe injury in the attack, had filed a written complaint against the IIC with the Puri Superintendent of Police (SP) and Puri Court yesterday.
