Balangir: A police constable was killed after a speeding truck ran over him on NH-26 near Gandhinagar Pada under Saintala Police Station area in the district on Sunday.
The deceased identified as Mrutyunjay Kuanr (45) of Satyanarayan Pada village. He was earlier working at the Balangir Traffic Police Station and had recently been posted at the Belgaon Police Outpost.
Kuanr was out on a morning walk at around 4.30 AM when the freak mishap took place. Driver of a speeding truck traveling from Balangir to Sambalpur failed to spot him on the road and ended up mowing down under the wheels of the vehicle. Kuanr died on the spot.
Saintala Police reached the spot getting intimation on the accident and rushed the body for postmortem to Balangir DHH. An investigation is underway into the incident and efforts are on by the police to trace the absconding driver of the truck.
