Consultation Programme On ‘Safety of Women and Children’ Held In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar:Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today felicitated Mitrabhanu Mahapatra, SP Angul, Special Public Prosecutor Saro Kumar Patnaik and Ramesh Chandra Bisoi, inspector of Angul Town PS for successful investigation and prosecution in a case of rape and murder of a minor girl in which the trial was completed in a record time and the accused was sentenced to capital punishment.

The chief minister felicitated the three during a one-day national level consultation programme on “Safety of Women and Children” at Police Bhawan in Bhubaneswar. The programme was organised by Odisha Police in collaboration with the UNICEF Odisha and Indian Police Foundation, New Delhi.

Number of panel discussions on multifarious issues related to the safety of women and children were held during the programme with a view to evolve a strategy for future action.

Patnaik praised the phenomenal success of the Paree campaign and assured full-fledged support of Odisha Government for Mission Paree 2024 as proposed by Police DG R.P Sharma. He also appreciated the efforts of Odisha Police in undertaking this consultation programme and hoped that the consultation workshop would deliberate on several burning issues related to the safety of women and children and suggest an action plan for future.

Police DG R.P Sharma reiterated the commitment of Odisha Police in dealing with issues of women and children. He mentioned that Odisha Police is taking sincere steps to prevent, detect and prosecute effectively the cases against women and children.

Sharma also said that the Odisha Police is planning to launch Mission Paree 2024 with four key objectives of prevention of child sexual abuse, prevention of child trafficking particularly of girls, prevention of child marriage and eradication of child labour.
