Dhenkanal: A construction supervisor was killed and another person sustained critical injury after a Scooty they were traveling on was run over by a truck on NH-55 in Gundichapada area under Sadar Police Station area here on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Sribatsa Nayak of Chhatia village under Gondia police limits in the same district.
Sribatsa was on his way to work in Angul in the morning, riding his Honda Activa with a labourer from his village on the pillion seat, when the mishap took place. The driver of a speeding truck which was moving in the same direction and drove extremely left on the road and ended up mowing down the Activa from behind, right in front of the Sadar Police Station.
While Sribatsa died on the spot after getting crushed under the truck’s wheels, the injured labourer was rushed to Dhenkanal DHH by the police. He has been identified as Prafulla Behera.
Police have rushed the body for postmortem and are trying to trace the truck which managed to escape from the spot after the accident.
