Congress protests fuel price hike in Cuttack

Cuttack: Hundreds of Congress workers along with their leaders staged a demonstration protesting the fuel price hike here on Monday.

The protesters were seen sloganeering against the Union Government especially against Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. They claimed that the soaring petrol and diesel prices are burning a hole in the common man’s pockets.

They blocked the national highway (NH) and burned tyres to show their discontent following which the traffic came to a stand-still in the city.

The cops and the protestors clashed when the latter waylaid Cuttack’s Rural SP Madhab Chandra Sahu’s vehicle while he was passing through the route.

“In foreign countries, the prices are around Rs 50-55, why is it more than Rs 80 here? Why has PM Narendra Modi not fulfilled his promises? Today petrol prices have gone higher than Rs 80 and diesel has reached Rs 76. If this continues, the protest that is only limited to Cuttack now will soon spread to other states and then become a nationwide phenomenon,” said Mohammed Moquim, President of Cuttack City (District) Congress Committee.
