Commonwealth Games 2018: Indian Wrestlers, Shooters shine on Day 9

Gold Coast: Indian wrestlers and shooters on Friday shined in the 21st Commonwealth Games’ here in Australia. They won 3 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze medal on Day 9 of the competitions today, taking India’s overall tally to 17 Gold, 9 Silver and 12 Bronze.

Wrestler Bajrang Punia in 65 kg category brought laurels to the country as he grabbed his maiden Commonwealth Gold with a 10-0 win over Kane Charig of Wales.

However, Pooja Dhanda had to settle for Silver medal after she lost in the Final in 57 kgs. Divya Kakran, who lost in the 68 kg semi-finals, won the Bronze in wrestling competition.

In Shooting, 15-year old Anish Bhanwala clinched the Gold in Men’s 25-metre Rapid Fire Pistol event becoming the country’s youngest ever gold medallist at the Games. The Haryana lad created a Games record with a score of 30 to finish at the top of the podium.

Tejaswini Sawant also made a Games record to claim the Women’s 50-metre Rifle-3 Positions Gold. Anjum Moudgil won the Silver in the event.

Tejaswini has grabbed her second medal in the event as she had clinched Silver medal in the 50-metre Rifle Prone event earlier.

With 17 yellow metals, India have now secured third position in the medal tally of the mega event.
