Commissionerate Police Introduces ‘Special 26’ Team To Curb Loot, Snatching In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to curb the rising cases of loot and snatching, the Commissionerate Police on Monday introduced a ‘Special 26’ team at every police station in the state Capital. The move comes amid a spike in cases of loot and snatching in Bhubaneswar.

Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Dash today informed a Special Officer will be engaged at each police station in the city. As many as four Constables will work under the Special Officer who will lead each ‘Special 26’, team. The ‘Special 26’ teams will handle only loot and snatching cases in the city, the DCP added.

According to the sources, recent cases of looting and snatching, at least 57 cases in December 2020, 26 cases in January 2021 and 57 cases of snatching in February have been reported in just three months.

Similarly, 187 cases in December 2020, 200 cases in January 2021 and 181 cases of robbery have been reported in February.

In view of the rise in snatching incidents, the Commissionerate Police has taken the stern decision.
