Commissionerate Police Identifies Five Black Spots On NH 16

Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate police has identified five black spots (accident prone areas) on the National Highway 16 passing through the state capital. The accident prone spots identified so far are Bata Bhuasuni Temple in Janla, Aiginia, the road passing through Sidharth Hotel in Nayapalli, Acharya Vihar flyover and Pahala.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic), Bijay Kumar Sahu said that barriers will be erected to slow down the vehicles passing through these spots. “We will also put signage of ‘Accident Prone Area’ on those spots. Barriers will be in place till 9 pm. All these steps will be taken on a pilot basis,” said Sahu. Sahu attributed reckless driving, use of mobile phones during driving and violation of traffic norms as the major reasons behind recent road mishaps in the city.

Earlier police commissioner Satyajit Mohanty has directed the traffic wing to identify accident prone areas after five persons were killed in separate road mishaps in the state capital within a span of three days.

On Monday a father-son duo was killed after falling off the 30-feet-high Acharya Vihar flyover after their scooter hit a protection wall on the road post being hit from behind by an unknown vehicle.
