Cold wave grips Odisha, 6 districts below 15°C

Bhubaneswar: The cold wave grips Odisha as the temperature remained below 15 degrees Celsius at 6 places across the state.

As many as six places braved the cold weather with minimum temperatures hovering below 15-degree Celsius. The night temperature fell below 10 degrees Celsius in Daringbadi on Saturday.

Besides, the temperature recorded under 15 deg celsius in Koraput (12.2), Phulbani (12.6), Keonjhar (14.1), Titlagarh (14.3) and Jharsuguda (14.6).

The minimum temperature recorded in Daringbadi was 9.5 degree celsius.

Daringbadi is being termed as the “Kashmir of Odisha” due to the cold climate. The hill station is located in the Kandhamal district at the height of about 3,000 ft above sea level.

The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack also recorded 17 and 18-degree Celsius respectively.

The Centre further informed that a cyclonic circulation lies over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean off Sumatra coast. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood around November 9.

The system is likely to become more marked and move west northwestward towards north Tamil Nadu coast during the subsequent 48 hours, it said.
