CMC raids fish godowns in city over formalin in fish

Cuttack: The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Sunday raided several fish markets and godowns in the city in the wake of the rumoured presence of cancer-causing formalin in fish.

According to reports, civic body’s food safety squad of the health wing conducted raids on major fish mandis in Khapuria and Krushakbazar in the city. The squad examined more than 20 fish godowns and collected samples of four fishes.

Speaking about the raid CMC food safety officer Prabhakar Pradhan said, “The fish samples have been sent to a laboratory in Bhubaneswar for testing.”

Earlier on July 13, Fisheries and Animal Resources Development had found traces of cancer-causing formalin in Pomfret fish samples procured from the Unit-IV fish market in Bhubaneswar.
