CM Naveen Patnaik to inaugurate ECMO treatment at SCB hospital today

Cuttack: The Extra-Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) treatment will begin at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack from today. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will visit Cuttack and inaugurate the ECMO treatment. Nine extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) machines will be installed at the State’s premier medical institution.

According to DMET Chief CBK Mohanty, it will be the largest unit in the eastern part of India. The medical equipment will be installed at the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) Department of the SCB Hospital.

Reportedly, the ECMO treatments will no more be expensive for people. Infact, free treatments will be provided to critically ill patients. The doctors and para-medical staffs have completed their training on the treatment.

Prior to the chief minister’s visit, the District Collector and DCP inspected the situation at SCB Hospital.

Earlier, the patients had to be airlifted outside the state by air-ambulance for emergency ECMO treatment.

It is to be noted that Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) hospital and AIIMS, Bhubaneswar have also installed ECMO machines for severely affected Covid-19 patients.
