CM Naveen Patnaik to contest 2019 election from Western Odisha!

Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is likely to contest the forthcoming State Assembly election from Western Odisha.

Speaking to the newsmen, Patnaik said, “Leaders, women, students and farmer of Western Odisha have come and requested me to contest the election from Western Odisha and I am considering it very seriously.”

However, it is yet to be known from which Assembly constituency Patnaik will fight the election.

Patnaik’s announcement came moments after heavyweight leaders from the Western Odisha along with farmers, women and students met him at his residence today.

Padma Shri awardee Sambalpuri poet and writer Haldhar Nag also met the Chief Minister.

Patnaik’s announcement is considered to be a masterstroke to check the Congress and BJP in the Western Odisha as both the national parties have focused the area for the upcoming election.

Speaking about the development, senior BJD leader and Rajya Sabha MP Prasanna Acharya said, “Several party leaders, students, farmers, women from Western Odisha met our party supremo and honourable Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today and requested him to contest the forthcoming election from our area as he has given priority for its development. We would love to see him as the fifth CM of the state from the Western Odisha.”

“He (Naveen Patnaik) said that he will consider our request seriously and take a decision soon. It is he who will decide which Assembly Constituency of the Western Odisha, he will contest the election,”

Notably, the BJD supremo has been contesting elections from the Hinjili
constituency in Ganjam district.
