CM Naveen Patnaik lays foundation stone for Odia University

Puri: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik laid foundation stone for Odia University at Bakulabana under Satyabadi block in the coastal district of Odisha on Tuesday. The day coincides with birth anniversary of Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das.

The regional language varsity will impart education upto higher courses including M.Phil and Ph.D in Odia language and will function towards development of the Odia language.

In may 2016, Odia got “classical language’’ status in the same league as Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.

Bakula Bana was the land of revolution in field of education and literature pioneered by Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das, Acharya Harihar, Pandit Nilakantha Dash, Pandit Godabarisha Mishra and Pandit Krupasindhu, all known as Panchasakha .

Earlier, the Chief Minister offered floral tributes to the Panchasakha, who had set up Bakula Bana Vidyalaya, the first model open school of the state in 1909.

Revenue Minister Maheswar Mohanty, Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathi, Puri MP Pinaki Mishra and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
