Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday appreciated Nayapalli IIC Arun Kumar Swain for his for his unprecedented courage on the field.
“Displaying unprecedented courage on the field, IIC of Nayapalli Police Station Arun Kumar Swain singlehandedly saved a youth from assailants and also nabbed one of them. His bravery and commitment are in highest traditions of @Odisha_Police (Odisha Police )and an inspiration for all,” CMO tweeted today.
Yesterday, Swain rescued a youth being chased and attacked by two knife-wielding miscreants near the Regional Passport Office (RPO) in the city. He also nabbed one of the accused from the spot.
The incident occurred when the IIC was on his way for VIP duty and saw a person named Abhay Kumar Nayak was chased by two persons with a knife in a broad daylight. Abhay was already injured and profusely bleeding.
Swain immediately jumped out of his four wheeler and rushed towards the miscreants. He overpowered one of the assailants and nabbed him. The other accused was arrested later.
Swain also took the injured Abhay to the Capital Hospital in his vehicle. After getting the primary treatment, Abhay was shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. His condition was stable, when the last reports came in.
The two assailants, identified as Bijay Kumar Sethi and his younger brother Smruti Ranjan Sethi of Nayapalli Gada Sahi, had attacked Abhay over a personal dispute.
A case has been registered at Nayapalli police in connection to the crime.
