CM Naveen demands Centre to waive 3400 crores

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has requested the Centre to waive 3400 crores for the state. He also reiterated his demand for an independent state status for Odisha. These demands were made in the Niti Ayog meeting held on Saturday.

In his second term, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had chaired the fifth governing council meeting of the Niti Ayog.

“As an interim measure, states hit by major natural calamities may be declared as the Special Focus States and granted benefits of special category status for a specific period,” the CM proposed.

He added that central security forces such as CRPF, BSF and the RPF get appointed in the Mao-infested parts of the state. The demand of 3400 crores is for handling the Mao prone areas.

With a sharp increase of Maoist activity, CM Naveen Patnaik also demanded that the district Kalahandi be declared the extremely Mao-sensitive area. An additional package for the said district.
