CM congratulates AIIMS doctors as Jaga-Balia separated after surgery

Jaga BaliaBhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has congratulated the team of doctors of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi for successful separation of Jaga-Balia, the conjoined twins from Odisha on Thursday.

Taking to his twitter handle, Naveen also prayed to Lord Jagannath for the speedy recovery of the twins.

A team of 30 doctors across specialists carried out the second phase surgery of the twins from Milipada village of Kandhamal district in Odisha on Wednesday and separated them after a herculean effort of 11-hours. The plastic surgery on the twins would be carried out today.

Earlier on Wednesday evening the New Delhi AIIMS sources had informed that doctors from neurosurgery, neuro-anaesthesia and plastic surgery departments took part in the surgery and the condition of Jaga-Balia was stable.

However, the twins have been put under 72-hours observation following the surgery.

Notably, the Jaga-Balia case came to light after Kalinga TV aired a special programme on them in its ‘Kalinga Bandhu’ programme first on November 2016 and then on June 7, 2017. Following the airing of the program, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik took initiative and sanctioned Rs 1 Crore from the CM’s Relief Fund for the twins’ surgery. The first phase of surgery on the twins was carried out on August 28.
