Class II student dead, several injured as auto-rickshaw overturns in Kendrapara

Kendrapara: A class II student died and several others sustained injuries as an auto rickshaw in which they were travelling in overturned near Gara village under Pattamundai police limits in Odisha’s Kendrapara district on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Subhasmita Swain (7), a resident of Gara village.

According to reports, the auto rickshaw was carrying around 20 students of Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Oupada when the mishap occurred. The students were returning  their home after the school hours.

Hearing the screams of the students, locals, who were working in the nearby farmland, rushed to the spot and rescued the students.

The injured students were immediately rushed to the hospital, where doctor declared Subhasmita as ‘brought dead’.

The driver of the auto rickshaw absconded soon after the mishap occurred, locals said.

Irate over the incident, locals set the auto rickshaw on fire and staged a road blockade on the village road.

On being informed, local police reached the spot and began investigation into the matter.

A pal of gloom descended in the village after the tragic incident.
