CJI Dipak Misra lays stone of IT Appellate Tribunal in Cuttack

BhoomiCuttack: Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra laid the foundation stone for construction of the new building of the Cuttack bench of Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, in the city today. Union law minister Rabi Shankar Prasad, union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan and state law minister Pratap Jena remained present on the occasion.

Speaking at the foundation stone lying ceremony Prasad laid emphasis on effective tax management and tax planning. He opined that the tax avoidance is a killer thing.

Similarly, Union Petroleum Minister dubbed the uprising of Indians against the British tax system around two hundred years ago was the first step towards freedom struggle. Pradhan says he feels proud that honourable Chief Justice of India Mishra laid the foundation stone of the new building.

Notably, Odisha Government has provided 1.6 acres of land completely free of cost for construction of the new building while the Centre has sanctioned funds. The old income tax appellate tribunal, Cuttack bench had been established in 1970. It was functioning at a rented house.

Earlier in the day Prasad paid a visit to Lord Lingaraj Temple and performed darshan. After visiting the 11th Century shrine Prasad said he feels privileged to be in the temple and got immense mental peace after the darshan.

“I prayed to Lord Lingaraj for safety and security of the people of India and Odisha”, said Prasad.
