Khordha: The prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure have been imposed at Banapur NAC area under Khordha district after Chilika MLA, Prasanta Kumar Jagadev was attacked by some miscreants.
Reportedly, the Khordha district administration issued notifications in this connection on Saturday evening.
The district administration has imposed Section 144 in and around the Banapur area anticipating a law and order situation for an indefinite period. The tension was provoked after the MLA forced his car into the crowd due to which the legs of many BJP women activists have been allegedly broken, around 20 people, including Banpur IIC and some other police officials, have also sustained injuries.
Notably, the supporters of BJP had staged a rally in view of the election for the post of block chairman in Banapur yesterday. The Chilika MLA was trying to enter amid the crowd. However, the people allegedly did allow him to enter, and in a reaction, Jagdev tried to force his vehicle into the rally.
The enraged locals, who were involved in the rally, attacked Jagdev, damaged his vehicle and overturned it in which he has sustained critical injuries following which he was taken for treatment to Tangi hospital and later shifted to Bhubaneswar for further treatment.
There were no reports of any casualty. The Police has initiated an investigation into the unfortunate incident based on the video evidence that has been circulating since yesterday.
