Chilika: Controversial Chilika MLA Prashant Jagdev has been arrested, informed Balugaon sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Manas Ranjan Barik today.
According to the SDPO, Jagdev was arrested after he recovered from his injuries at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He has been arrested for mowing down several people near the Banapur block office in Khurda district during the Block Chairman Election on March 12.
It is to be noted here that more than 20 people including six-seven cops, journalists and women were injured after they were run over by the legislator on March 12. Later, the angry mob attacked the MLA brutally and vandalized his four-wheeler.
A special team of cops from Banapur and Khurda Police Stations produced the Chilika MLA amid tight security before the Bhubaneswar SDJM Court after his arrest.
Sources said that the arrested MLA will be taken to Banapur from Bhubaneswar and produced before the Banapur Court later today and apply to take him on remand for interrogation into the matter.
