Bhubaneswar: Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) RP Sharma on Sunday informed that the assailants involved in the brutal hacking of Chhatrapur BJD Councillor from ward no.6 Laxmidutta Pradhan have been identified and will be arrested very soon.
Sharma said the killers were identified based on the available CCTV footage of the crime scene.
“It is suspected that Laximdutta has been killed over some past enmity. Three special teams have been formed under the leadership of Ganjam SP to arrest the miscreants, who absconded after committing the crime,” added the top cop while speaking to reporters.
Notably, Laxmidutta was brutally hacked by a group of about 20 miscreants, who also attacked his brother Debidutta Pradhan and mother, outside his house in LIC Colony in Chhatrapur at around 1 pm yesterday.
The profusely bleeding Councillor was wheeled into the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, but breathed his last while undergoing treatment.
The miscreants had escaped from the spot soon after hacking the councillor to death.
Kin of the deceased BJD councillor had claimed that some people who were in CPI and CPI (M) and have now joined BJP are the murderers.
Based on inputs provided by the local MLA, Food Supplies Minister Surjya Narayan Patro too has said that BJP workers were behind the murder.
