CESU Gives Deadline Of Jan 15 To Electricity Consumers To Clear Pending Dues

Bhubaneswar: The Central Electricity Supply Utility (CESU) has given a deadline of January 15 to electricity consumers to clear their pending dues.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CESU, Arun Bothra said that power supply to defaulter consumers will be disconnected from January 16.

“Number of consumers has failed to clear pending dues for years. The cumulative pending electricity bill of regular consumers has touched Rs 1971 crore. We urge them to clear their dues by January 15. The disconnection drive will be intensified from January 16,” said Bothra.

Notices in this regard will be posted at all Panchayat Offices, Police Stations and other prominent places under CESU’s jurisdiction. The defaulters will be intimated through SMS or by post. Besides, leaflets and advertisements will be given in newspapers.

CESU has about 27 lakh consumers in the district of Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Puri, Dhenkanal, Angul, Kendrapara, Nayagarh, Khordha and parts of Jajpur. Among them 7.78 lakh consumers had arrear of Rs.1581 Crores as on March 20919. Further, the arrears have increased to Rs.1971 crore as on date.

Arrears of more than Rs. 1023 Crores are pending against the domestic consumers which constitute 92% of the total defaulting consumers. Again, more than Rs.197 Crores is due from the commercial consumers which constitute 7.1% of defaulting consumers. Dues of Rs. 290 Crores are under legal dispute by consumers of different categories like industries, agriculture, CPP etc
