The Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has recently written a letter to the Odisha Government seeking cooperation for effective implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme in the State.

The centre will completely fund this scheme. Under the scheme, Rs 6,000 per annum will be provided to all small and marginal farmers across the country having cultivable land up to 2 hectares. The monetary assistance will be provided in three installments with effect from December 1, 2018. The first installment of Rs 2,000 will be transferred directly to the bank accounts of the farmers by March this year.

The Ministry has also asked the State Government to notify district level grievance redressal committees for redressing grievances related to the implementation of the scheme.

The letter that has been sent to the Chief Secretaries of all the states reads, “ State Governments are requested to immediately initiate the work of identification of beneficiaries and uploading relevant data for release of funds to the bank accounts of eligible farmer families.”
