Central internal audit team to probe PMAY irregularities in OdishaBhubaneswar: A Central internal audit team will probe the alleged irregularities in the allocation of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY) in Mahanga block of Cuttack district.

Union Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Saturday informed Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan about the decision through a letter.

Tomar has directed the Chief Controller of Accounts to send an internal audit team for an inquiry in the matter and furnish a report.

Tomar wrote to Pradhan after the latter apprised him about the largescale irregularities in selection of beneficiaries for the PMAY in Mahanga block of Cuttack district.

Kishore Kumar Rout, Sarpanch of Barahipur GP and Rama Chandra Behera, a villager of the block, had drawn Pradhan’s attention alleging that ruling party MLAs, BDO and PEOs were engaged in large scale corruption by including ineligible beneficiaries in the list.

The identification of beneficiaries is based on the housing deprivation parameters as per Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) 2011 data. Houseless households and households living in zero, one and two room kutcha houses subject to exclusion criteria are provided assistance under PMAY-G.
