The Central team has praised the Odisha government for its prompt relief and restoration work in the Cyclone Fani affected districts.
Vivek Bharadwaj, the additional secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, who led the team to Odisha told media persons on Wednesday, “The state government has done a commendable job after the cyclone and provided relief, food, polythene and financial assistance to the affected families.” He also said that the Centre is ready to lend all support to rebuild the State.
The statement came after a high-level meeting held at the State Secretariat where many senior government officials were present.
Notably, the very severe cyclonic storm named ‘Fani’ had ravaged many districts of the coastal belt on May 3.
The inter-ministerial team from the centre intimated that Puri district is the largest sufferer in this severe cyclonic storm. Apart from that, huge numbers of houses, coconut trees and betel vines have also been destroyed in Khurda and Cuttack districts.
Estimating the damage in Fani affected areas at Rs 11,942 crore, the State Government said, a detailed memorandum will be submitted to the Centre after estimation of the actual loss incurred.
“The state government has received the cyclone damage report from some districts. A full-fledged report will be prepared once we receive reports from the remaining affected districts and submitted to the Centre,” Chief secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi said.
Padhi further said that the state government has requested the team to relax the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) norms to facilitate immediate relief.
