Cash seized from car in poll-bound Odisha

Bargarh: The district police seized a large amount of unexplained amount of cash from a car under Melchhamunda Police limits in the poll-bound Odisha’s Bargarh district on Tuesday.

According to Padampur SDPO Pradeep Kumar Sahu, acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a Kwid car (OD 17 K 1166) at Guderpali under Melchhamunda police limits and seized cash worth Rs 2 lakh while conducting a search inside the vehicle.

Sources said that the car belonged to one Sanjeev Mohapatra of Sohela, who is said to be a supporter of BJP’s Bijepur candidate Sanat Gadtia.

The sources further said that police seized the cash after Sandeep could not produce documents regarding the money.

It is worthwhile to mention here that when the Model Code of Conduct is in force documents are required for carrying cash more than Rs 5,000 as per the Election Commission of India (ECI).
