Rourkela: A case has been registered against former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) Ashwini Kumar and Executive Director (Works), Gautam Banerjee for installation of Sulphuric Acid unit with a capacity of 125 tonnes per day without permission of the Ministry of Forest, Environment and Climate Change.
The case was registered with the SDJM Court, Panposh on the basis of a complaint filed by Sundargarh Collector Nikhil Pawan Kalyan. The case has been registered under section 15 of the Environment Protection Act 1986.
The unit was commissioned in 2015 for use in the coal chemical department, cold rolling mill and captive power plant-I.
However, the state forest and environment department had later found the unit of being commissioned without approval. The department has also directed the Sundargarh district collector to initiate legal action in this connection.
