Carcass Of 2 Elephants Found At Kuldiha Sanctuary In Nilgiri

Balasore: The carcass of two dead elephants were recovered from  Kuldiha Wildlife Sanctuary under Nilgiri forest range in Balasore district on Wednesday.

As per reports, Forest officials found carcasses of two female elephants a distance of about 200m in the sanctuary. The death of the elephants has been caused by anthrax, informed the ACF.

The age of the dead elephants is said to be around 40 years.

The animals were buried without a post-mortem examination. According to protocol, there is no autopsy of animals that die from anthrax to prevent the spread of the bacteria.

As a precautionary measure, the forest department has undertaken a sensitisation drive and urged farmers to avoid using the spot from where the elephant’s carcass was recovered.
