Cap on Durga idol height row: Orissa High Court rejects petition

Cuttack: The Orissa High court on Friday rejected a petition filed by Cuttack’s Balu Bazar Puja Committee seeking relaxation in restrictions imposed on height of Durga idol.

The Balubazaar Puja Committee one of the oldest Puja organizers in Cuttack had filed a petition in the Orissa HC seeking judicial intervention in permitting celebrations during festive season, especially Durga Puja.

In the petition, they had appealed to increase in height of idol for the auspicious Durga Puja-2021 which has been restricted to the height of 4 ft.

On Sep 13, the State BJP had called a 12-hour shutdown in Cuttack to protest the Odisha government’s decision on not allowing any relaxations in the guidelines issued for the conduct of Puja in mandaps/ pandals during the festive season.

On August 9, the state government in its advisory laid out some important guidelines to be strictly followed during the festive season adherence to Covid pandemic norms.
