Cabinet approves special law to regulate prawn gheries in Chilika Bhubaneswar: In an important decision, the State Cabinet on Tuesday approved a special law to regulate prawn gheries in Chilika.

The proposed law will give more power to the Chilika Development Authority (CDA) and will provide for seven-year jail term for illegal fishermen.

The Cabinet also approved 18 other proposals, including revised Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates.

Changes in Cadres of Agriculture Department and +3 Council also got the Cabinet nod. Establishment of a Council for Higher Education to ensure quality education and promoting research in Odisha was also approved.

Work on thr 100-seat Government Medical College at Keonjhat will start immediately with tender of about Rs 314 crore.

The Cabinet also okayed drinking water supply infrastructure in Baripada, Sambalpur, Rourkela and Jharsuguda at a cost of about Rs 318 cr. This will benefit 13.92 lakh people in these towns.
