Busting of vehicle theft racket in Jajpur: Police unearth more information

Jajpur: Jajpur district police has unearthed more information about the vehicle theft racket busted in Sitaleswar area of the district on Saturday.

While addressing a press meet today, Jajpur SDPO Saroj Kumar Upadhyay said, “One Bijayaketan Panda had filed a case after his Bolero vehicle was stolen from Jajpur Town on July 11, 2021. An investigation into the matter was underway. However, police got information that a stolen vehicle was kept in the scrap shop owned by Radha Behera.”

“Police could trace the vehicle which was stolen from the Jagatpur area of Cuttack district on October 31, 2021, by tracking the vehicle’s GPRS. Soon, we conducted a raid on the scrap shop and seized a huge amount of vehicle parts. Till now, we have identified a total of 10 vehicles.”

Meanwhile, the three persons, who have been identified as Radha Behera, the scrap shop owner, Sheik Ismal, an employee of the scrap shop and Manas Ranjan Pall, the thief, who were arrested have been forwarded to the court.

“A total of nine cases are pending against the trio in Jajpur and other police Stations,” said Upadhyay adding that police are also interrogating several people and conducting raids at different places to get more lead in the case.

It is to be noted here that the Jajpur Police busted the vehicle lifting racket after conducting a raid on a scrap shop near Sitaleswar area on November 6.

A resident of Jagatpur area in Cuttack district had reportedly filed a police complaint after his pick-up van was stolen from in front of his house on October 31, 2021. Tacking of the vehicle’s GPRS had helped the cops to bust the vehicle theft racket.

Radha Behera used to purchase the stolen vehicles and remove the parts and sell them as scrap materials with the help of Sheik Ismal and Manas Ranjan Pall.
