Bhubaneswar: A Rayagada based businessman was allegedly robbed of Rs 3 lakh near Rajmahal Square under Capital police limits this afternoon. The miscreant involved in the crime allegedly raised a false alarm that oil was leaking from the car.

The victim identified as Damodar Mohaptra had been to a medicine shop while two of his friends were sitting inside the car. “A man approached the car and told us that oil was leaking from the car. We immediately got out of the car and lifted the bonnet to inspect the vehicle. By that time the man decamped with the cash bag kept inside the car,” alleged Santosh, a friend of Mohapatra.

Moahaptra said that the incident took place while they were returning to Muniguda in Rayagada district. “I was in Bhubaneswar to purchase a used car for which I have kept the cash. However we decided to return as the deal could not be struck,” said Mohapatra.

Later Mohapatra lodged a complaint with the Capital police station. Police have started an investigation and said that they are monitoring the CCTV footage of the area to identify the accused involved in the crime.
