Bus plunges into rivulet after collision with tanker; 15 hurt

Koraput: At least 15 pilgrims sustained injuries after a passenger bus carrying them plunged into a rivulet after being hit by a tanker on NH-26 at Hatapada near Kunduli in the district on Sunday.

The mishap took place early in the morning while the tourist bus namely ‘Sai Krishna’ was on its way to Kunduli carrying devotees after a month-long expedition around the state. The bus was standing on the NH to allow passengers to deboard when the driver of a tanker coming from behind failed to locate it due to dense fog and ended up dashing against it from the rear. The bus skidded of the road and plunged into a nearby rivulet due to the collision.

While at least 40 passengers who had already deboarded the bus had a narrow escape, 15 others including 5-6 women who were still inside the bus at the time of the incident were hurt in the mishap. The tanker driver also sustained injury in the accident.

The injured were rushed to the Kunduli CHC by Pottangi Police which reached out for rescue along with the Semiliguda Police immediately.

All the injured are now out of danger said hospital authorities.
