Mayurbhanj: A major mishap was averted and lives of more than 50 passengers were saved after a running bus caught fire on Bangiriposhi ghati here today.
As per the report, the bus which was en-route to Betnoti from Karanjia this morning carrying relatives of one Riter Nayak to take part in a function held at his daughter’s house. The bus suffered a technical glitch near Maa Duarasuni temple and suddenly caught fire.
While all the passengers managed to get down of the burning bus soon after the incident, it was reduced to ashes within minutes.
Chickens weighing over 1 quintal and at least five goats which had been loaded on the bus were also charred to death during the mishap, said a member of the victim family.
Meanwhile, police have reached the spot and started investigation into the cause of the fire.
