Bus fares hiked in Odisha

Odisha Private Bus Owners’ Association threaten stir from Nov 1Bhubaneswar: The state government has hiked bus fare for all categories with effect from October 28.

The Commerce and Transport Department has increased the ordinary bus fare by 4 paise per km while for the express bus category it has been hiked by 3 paise per km.

With this move, the passengers have to pay 64 paise per km instead of 60 paise in the ordinary buses and 67 paise instead of 64 paise while traveling in the express buses.

Likewise, the commuters using the deluxe bus service will have to pay 84 paise per km instead of 89 paise as the government has increased five paise for this category.

The AC deluxe fare also witnessed a six paise hike per km following which one has to Rs 1.11 from the existing Rs 1.05 paise. The minimum fare in these two slabs will be Rs 13.

The bus fares hike came in view of the proposed strike by the Odisha Private Bus Owners’ Association.
