Budhi Thakurani Jatra Called Off In Ganjam District Of Odisha

Ganjam: The famous Budhi Thakurani Jatra in Berhampur of Ganjam district of Odisha has been called off by the district administration keeping in view of the rising Covid cases in the state.

According to reports, the Subha Khunti has not been installed on Friday night.

It is to be noted that, the Thakurani Jatra which is usually observed for 21 days but this year, the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) has directed the concerned authorities to curtail the celebration in view of the Covid infection in Berhampur.

The month-long festival marks the journey of Goddess Budhi Thakurani, presiding deity of the Silk City, As per the tradition, the Goddess will stay in a temporary abode near her parental house in Desibehera street. The idol of the Goddess would be taken out in a procession to different streets dressed as mythological characters to facilitate residents worship her at their doorsteps.
