Budget session of Odisha Assembly to begin tomorrow

Bhubaneswar: The Budget session of the Odisha Assembly will commence here tomorrow with the address of Governor SC Jamir to the House.

The session will continue till May 5 in two phases. The first part of the session will continue from March 20 to March 31. After a recess, the session will resume on April 11 and go on until May 5.

Finance Minister Shashi Bhusan Behera will present the state’s annual budget for the year 2018-19 on March 23. Appropriation bill of the full budget will be passed on April 30.

The session is likely to be a stormy one with the opposition Congress and BJP deciding to corner the Naveen Patnaik Government on several issues including the farmers’ plight, rising unemployment, drinking water crisis among others.

On the other hand, the ruling BJD is likely to target the Narendra Modi Government at the Centre for its continuous neglect to the state, particularly in Mahanadi river issue , Polavaram dam Project and non-revision of minimum support price (MSP) on paddy.

The Legislature party meeting of BJD, Congress and BJP will be held separately here today to discuss their respective strategy to be adopted by the party during the session.
