Jaleswar: Tightening the noose around the necks of illegal drug traders, Excise Department officials seized 68 gram brown sugar by conducting a raid in Rajpur slum under Jaleswar police limits in Balasore district on Tuesday and took one person into custody.
The held peddler has been identified as Abbas Khan of Rajpur slum.
The raid was carried out following a direction of Balasore SP and Excise Superintendent at around 5 am in the wee hours today in which officials searched the house of Abbas and seized a packet of brown sugar from his possession. He was taken into custody subsequently.
The seized brown sugar will cost around Rs 7 lakh, said an Excise official.
Interrogation of the held peddler is underway to elicit more information on the flourishing drug business in the district.
