Brown sugar worth Rs 5 lakh seized in Balasore, 2 held

Soro: Launching a crackdown on illegal drug trade, police arrested at least two peddlers by conducting a raid in Markona area of Balasore district today and seized brown sugar weighing 38.64 grams from their possession.

The held persons have been identified as Faraz Mohammed and Ashiq Khan. Both are residents of Rathipur village under Khordha district.

Acting upon a tip-off on the drug consignment which the duo was carrying on a motorcycle from Bhadrak to Balasore a team of Simulia Police intercepted them on National Highway-16 near Markona for check. During the search a packet of brown sugar was recovered from the duo resulting in their arrest.

The seized brown sugar would cost approximately Rs 5 lakh, said Simulia IIC Sanjay Kumar Parida.

Interrogation of the held peddler duo is underway to elicit more information on the drug trade, he added.
