Brown sugar worth Rs 35 lakh seized in Balasore, 3 including 1 woman detained

Balasore: The Odisha Police have seized a huge cache of brown sugar and detained three persons in this connection in Jaleswar town of Balasore district.

Acting on a tip-off, Jaleswar police conducted raid at various places in town and seized 350 grams of brown sugar and nabbed the accused from the spot. There are reports about a woman involved in this case.

The estimated worth of the seized brown sugar is over Rs 35 lakh. A case in this regard has been registered and further investigation is underway, said a police official. The identity of the arrested persons is yet to be ascertained.

Since last six months, Jaleswar police have seized more than 4 kg of brown sugar. The illegal business of drugs is unable to stop even after repeated raids in the town by Special Task Force (STF), Excise Department and Jaleswar Police.

It is noteworthy that, the Commissionerate Police had launched operation “white spider” to nab the drug peddlers in the capital city of Odisha.

The Commissionerate Police on August 16 launched operation ‘White Spider’ to check the drug menace in Bhubaneswar. The police will target the entire chain including the suppliers, dealers, and peddlers engaged in the drugs trade.

All police stations had been sensitized regarding this drive. Members of the Special Squad along with the Quick Action Team (QAT) will carry out the operation.

The Commissionerate Police has also launched a dedicated WhatsApp number – 7077798111 and sought public cooperation to check the contraband menace.
