Brown sugar worth Rs 3 lakh seized, peddler held in Balasore

Balasore: In a success against illegal narcotics traders in the district, the Excise Department sleuths today arrested a peddler and seized brown sugar weighing 30 gram from his possession after conducting a raid in Jhadeswarpur slum under Jaleswar area here today.

The held peddler has been identified as Anil Khatei, a resident of Kharagpur in neighbouring West Bengal State.

Acting upon a tip-off on a drug deal which was about to happen in the Jhadeswarpur slum, a seven-member team of Excise sleuths led by ASI Haraprasad Rana raided the place early in the morning today. During the raid the officials nabbed Khatei who was carrying a brown sugar consignment and seized the narcotics.

The seized brown sugar will cost around Rs 3 lakh, informed Excise sources.

Notably, the Jhadeswarpur slum remained to be a den for illegal drug traders from neighbouring State West Bengal. While 12-member team of Excise officials had raided the place a few days ago, they had been attacked by drug mafia at that time and returned empty hand.
