The arrested drug peddler has been identified as Brundaban Pradhan.

The raid was conducted this morning after Khordha Excise officials got a tip-off on the brown sugar deal which was taking place in Brundaban’s house in the Christian Sahi area. A team of officials led by Excise Inspector Ranjan Kumar Nayak took part in the raid and conducted a search in the house of the accused and recovered a number of brown sugar packets and seized those. Informing on the raid Pradhan said more such raids would be conducted in Khordha to make it a drug free zone.

“The accused was involved in selling the banned drug. A case under Narcotic Drugs Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been lodged against him after arrest. We are trying to find out whether he is a part of any racket or not and his interrogation is underway,” said Pradhan.

“We have busted at least 5 drug rackets this year. With an objective of making Khordha a drug free zone we have planned more such raids in the future,” he added.

Meanwhile, the arrested accused has confessed to the crime and said he was selling brown sugar to customers in Khordha town after bringing those from Balasore. However, he ruled out being a part of a larger network and selling brown sugar to college students.
