Balasore: In a major success against illegal drug traders in the district, Sahadevkhunta Police today seized brown sugar weighing 1.65 kg after conducting a raid in Dahapada area and took at least four peddlers into custody.
While the identification of the held persons are not known, they are suspected to be local residents.
After getting a tip-off on the narcotics consignment, which was being transported by a group of peddlers in a car from Dahapada area this morning, Sahadevkhunta Police intercepted it in the morning. During the search of the vehicle a packet containing the banned drug was recovered.
Later, at least four persons who were boarding the car as well as a bike which was accompanying it were taken into custody.
The seized drug will cost over Rs 1.6 crore, said police.
Further investigation is underway into the case to examine the possible involvement of an inter-state racket in it.
