Rourkela: A bride canceled her marriage with a drunken groom after the latter and his friends misbehaved with the bride’s family and relatives last night in the Steel City.

According to reports, one Shankar Panda of Champagarh slum under Bandhamunda police limits arrived in a colourful procession to wed Arsul Panda’s daughter, a resident of Labour Colony under Tangarpali police limits.

However, the wedding venue at Saranagari Jagannath Temple in Rourkela turned battlefield as some persons, who were part in the groom’s procession, were heavily drunk and started misbehaving along with the groom with the bride’s family members. The wedding ceremony was stopped mid-way following the scuffle between the persons in both the sides.

Later, the bride and her family filed a complaint with the Tangarpali police accusing the groom and his associates of creating ruckus and abusing family members in inebriated state during the wedding ceremony. They demanded compensation.

Police have started an investigation into the incident by detaining the groom and others.
